"I`m learning mandarin, and one big issue is how to look up characters that you don`t know. Pinyin input requires you to know what the syllable / word sounds like, handwriting input usually requires you to know the right stroke order and direction - and I don`t really want to learn handwriting. You can use the traditional method of looking up radicals and counting the strokes, but it`s slow. I tested it on a business card and a line in a textbook - every character correct, and super fast. Ok so it struggled with the dot matrix from the supermarket check-out receipt, but hey.. it got one or two chars right there as well. Been looking for this app for years. Thanks!"

Hopely something can be done to reduce battery consumption. Otherwise, it is an excellent app. Update: explained by developer the battery draining is most likely due to my stock camera. And battery usage is higher during live mode. OCR won`t run at the background. 5 stars."

This easily recognize characters although I would like to see some features of Pleco OCR integrated in this like the ability to copy all sentences then just tapping the word to get the meaning and also the definition pop out where you don`t have to be transferred to another window to see the definition of a word. "The purchased OCR works as advertised, except the interface with the pro version is not recognized. The Pro version has an OCR built in which does not recognized the upgraded OCR paid version. Using paid version OCR does not integrate with pro version. This lack of recognition and interface integration needs rectified soon. Otherwise, I would give 5 stars! Would also be excellent to be able to translate whole phrases and sentences!"

PLEASE READ THIS ALSO: when first using this app, it`s tempting to try it out by pointing the camera at Chinese text on a computer screen. However, this is NOT supported because the Moire effect means the image is distorted in a way that cannot be used by the recognition engine. So please point the camera at Chinese text in the real world (e.g. in books) or load images (such as screenshots captured by the device).
