"I`ve used this app (and earlier versions) for many years. Not the easiest user interface to learn but the app capabilities and access to map collections are awesome. I`ve downloaded and used topo maps while hiking in Spain, nautical charts for sailing in the San Juan Islands, and various maps for exploring closer to home. Developer is very responsive."

"Offline maps aren`t available unless you pay. I don`t mind apps with optional paid memberships. However I do mind apps with optional paid memberships that don`t tell you core functionality isn`t available without subscribing to a paid membership. And that`s why this gets 1 star and an uninstall."

"I would be happy to subscribe, but the application crashes every time on my Rockchip PX5 head unit. As long this is the case, it will be of no value to Offroaders using big screens in their cars. Unfortunately still not working on the latest version"

"Really love this app. Works perfectly on my Sony XZ2. Would highly recommend this to anyone walking worldwide. I`m using version 1.8.5 (Worked excellently in previous versions too). Works well with offline maps and importing gpx files"

"This app is junk on Android and ios! I love the pro version it works great but wanted one to work on my iPhone. Maps took 10 times or more longer to download than on pro with the same maps. Keeps locking up and saying has stopped working on both systems. Ios doesn`t even have a settings tab or tracking dashboard like android has. I`m sticking with the pro version for now."

"I`m here to edit my previous review. The folks here are quite responsive and feel like they are pretty straight forward. The forest service maps aren`t as good as they used to be but sounds like they`re working on it as a third party withdrew. Found another app for my Forest service maps. I think given this a shot for the cloud connectivity on my info when I change phones is the move."

"My son bought me a gold year subscription. Go to download a map and It keeps telling me I need to purchase a subscription. Then when I go to subscriptions to try again and see if something snafued when he purchased it, it says you already have a subscription. Can`t download anything - worthless. Help or Refund please."

"Initial impressions are that this is the best alternative to the soon to be gone Viewranger. Grid based downloads of desired maps, a useful summary of the storage the selected downloads will require and what you have availability on your device. Remote tracking / remote beacon option would probably give it a 5 star rating if availability."

"Update: thanks for the response from support team! I`ve paid for and downloaded (multiple times) an overlay, but it will not load. Every time I try to download it, it literally takes over an hour despite my high end phone and fast internet. I`ve even tried saving it to different locations."

"The XE version has improved greatly over the last year and is now my go to app for tracking my hikes in the backcountry. I`d rather store all my trips on my external SD card instead of having to upload and download to the cloud."

"I`ve used BCN PRO for 10+ yr. Because of labor intensive process to build maps only to loose. We seldom used.1+ yr. ago there didn`t appear to be a better solution. Trying to get away from Garmin. Bought BCN XE gold running on S7+ tablet. Feel XE has potential but still labor intensive to use. Garmin had entire US / regions pre-loaded so much faster process. If BCN had map packs by state at the very least or S.E. pack that could download in 10 - 15 min. It`s still evolving... Progress! Thanks"

"I decided to try the Gold membership level, $30 a year seems reasonable it`s what I pay for OnX premium. However upon playing around with the app I find that I now need to buy ``addons`` just to get the same functionality that I have with OnX. Several addons in fact. If I`m paying a $30 annual subscription do not then nickle and dime me with $8.00 ``addons.`` Also the app requires you to give it access to your location ``all the time`` as opposed to ``only while using the app``. All of the other mapping apps I use work just fine with ``only while using the app.`` No app needs to know my location ``all the time.`` In response to CritterMap regarding location permission ``all the time.`` I have checked the other maps apps I use, OnX, US Topo Pro, Gaia, All Trails. On my device they are all set to ``only while using the app`` All of them function and give me my location. Backcountry however will not even give me my current location unless I set location permission to ``all the time`` if I try it set to ``only while using app`` a pop-up comes up saying I need to give it ``all the time`` permission. Again this is clearly unnecessary since the other apps can do it just fine with ``only while using the app`` permissions."

"Not as good as the original BC app . I`ve got bronze membership and it doesn`t show my planned routes off line ...no point if I can`t get an internet signal ...on a laptop it won`t let me sign in as there is a security issue 😕. Have I wasted good money again ...yet before I loved the old pro version..."
